Corporal John Wesley Teer

 

 

John Wesley Teer was born on 5 November 1891 at Clera, Downpatrick, County Down, the second of two children of farmer John Teer and his wife Ellen (nee Shaw). His father died when he was nine years old and his mother six years later. By 1911 he was living and working on the family farm with his aunt and sister.

Teer enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 23 February and 19 March 1912 (No.680 – later Corps of Hussars No.71069).

He embarked for France with A Squadron on 17 August 1914, seeing action on the retreat from Mons and advance to the Aisne.

On 17 February 1919 Teer was transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.

After the war he returned to farming. He died at 282 Cregagh Road, Belfast, on 18 March 1957.
